IE for the Mac Sucks
Yes. I said it. IE for the Mac sucks. Maybe I’m just tired of having to develop sites that comply with this worthless web browser. Maybe I’ve had one too many of my sites ruined by it. Maybe I think people need to change things so that all of us in the web community can move forward.
Why does it suck you ask?
First the technical reasons. It doesn’t comply properly with CSS. It won’t render W3C compliant web pages properly. It has security holes. It is slow. It renders pages the same way my grandmother walks to the store. She’ll get there eventually but it will take all day and she’ll stop several times along the way to talk to her friends.
It crashes. It freezes. It bogs. It lags. It basically just sucks. There is no other way to say it.
Even Microsoft knows it sucks so they stopped developing IE for the Mac and are telling people to use Safari.
You now have Apple Safari so why use IE for the Mac? Safari is faster, cleaner, better, more stable and does way more than IE ever did.
Upgrade Already!
I can just hear people whining now. I don’t have OS X. I can’t afford to upgrade. I’m poor. I don’t have money.
Well suck it up. Just because you’re too poor or too cheap to upgrade your system doesn’t mean you have to be slow too. Here is another option for your OS 9 system. This one is still supported and updated so it’s probably way more secure than IE.
If you’re on OS X and you’re still using IE than I don’t know if there are words in the English language to describe quite how I feel about you. I actually heard that people in some advertising and design agencies are still using IE for the Mac. I won’t mention any names but how could people that make a living from propagating design and style be using a web browser that keeps designers and developers from doing just that? And they’re running them on G5 and Intel based Mac towers. Just pathetic.
So if you’re reading this on IE for the Mac and you haven’t downloaded iCab or switched to Safari or Firefox, you should be feeling pretty stupid about now. If you’re not, it probably means that you are in fact really stupid.
Go out and upgrade. If you don’t like Safari or Firefox, here are some more options.
Opera
Sunrise Browser
Camino Web Browser
